May Review

This month has been quiet volatile in term of results, started out by losing nearly $60 on FTP which I think had a bad impact on my mental state, although I knew I was doing the right things as the hands I was loosing I was getting it in way ahead, but variance had me by the balls & so my first dip into the $5 waters ended badly as I'd lost a big chunk of my roll. I wanted to carry on at the limits because I knew I was playing well, making decent decisions & eventually it would swing back my way. However, my roll was depleted & I decided to drop back down to the $2 games & try to work it back. I won half of it back through the month, structured my sessions by playing a few at the $2 level & if I was playing well I took a shot at the $5, if not I stopped down at the $2. Kinda worked out for me, managed to minimise loses & make up some of the bankroll I'd lost.

On Stars I've run pretty well in the end, started off badly (again!) dropping $30 over 15 games, but managed to pull it back after taking down a couple of 4 man games & taking a couple of shots at the $11 turbos. Pretty happy overall, games don't seem too difficult & should be able to build a decent roll, just need to make sure I'm hitting my volume targets, certainly in June as time is going to be quite precious.

As far as Everest goes, I can't really report too much as I've only played like 4 games & that isn't even a small sample! But as far as those games have gone, the games seem super soft & should be able to build a roll pretty quickly. Not sure if I want to keep playing there or just get the 1k points & cash out. Depends on HOW soft the games are I guess.

[X] Play 160 games on FTP - Exactly 160 games

Overall, I'm fairly satisfied with the results. My study has been good, my games are improving with the help of Hokie & I'm finally stating to get decent results & I'm pretty confident that as long as I'm working hard on my game I'll be crushing in no time.

Climbing mount Everest

Since posting my June goals I've been given a small opportunity to make a bit of free monies. I signed up with pokerstrategy.com & passed their little exam & as a prize I get $50 on Everest (my choice), as long as I earn 1k points in 90 days I keep the original $50 along with any winnings, if not I keep what I made & they take their $50 back. Easy money! So in addition to my goals that I set I'm going to add an Everest target, now I realise that signing up now was pretty dumb being as I'm going to be without the net for a week, butI'm just going to have to work a bit harder to make it.

I already took my $50 & using the best bankroll management I knew, put it all in a $50 HUSNG, thankfully I crushed but I've moved back down to the $10 which is still probably pushing it, but as long as I don't tilt too much at how long it takes to deal one hand I should have a decent enough edge as the players I've played so far have been pretty bad!

June goal setting & May progress report

I've only go a few days left of this month, what a month it has been! I'll review the month in question once it's over but right now I'm gonna ponder my next move. I'm gonna have a week of which is obv gonna hit my volume a ton. I'm gonna try to stretch myself next month to get a decent amount in. Not sure I'm gonna get 2 HHs for Hokie until next month so should have those to review. I also discovered the Hokie pack on HUSNG has different videos from the ones on the rest of the site, hat a fucking revelation! So I've now got those to watch.

Looking at the study to playing ratio a 50:50 split seems too extreme but I'm gonna have a week off at the coast where I can read books & the other 3 weeks I have time at work to study videos which is just as much spare time as I get to actually play, if I could only get a reliable wireless connection I'd be able to double my volume & put in decent amounts! Oh well.

Here are my goals for June:

[  ] 100 games on FTP
[  ] 50 games on Stars
[  ] 30 hours of study
[  ] 30 hours of poker
[  ] Finish reading 'The poker mindset'

150/160 games on FTP
52/100 games on Stars

Week 3: PMA = Positive Mental Attitude

I'm pretty happy with my results this week, only won a couple of dollars on FTP but things are moving in the right direction & I'm working hard so I know things will get better. I've played a couple of $5 dollar games & I'm pretty comfortable with them, as expected the level of play isn't much different. As long as my results keep improving I should be at the $5 level next month, ahead of schedule for the $10 level by year end.

Had a pretty awesome week on Stars, +$48 been playing the $6 turbos & been playing pretty well, although it's still a small sample size. Decided to toy around with a couple of 70FPP satelites to the Sunday 1/4mill & won one, cashed out the $11 to play an $11 HUSNG which I crushed & I also played a 4man $6 & took it down.

Been watching more videos this week, going over old ones that I've watch just to reinforce the lessons & pick up anything I've missed. Got another HH back from Hokie that I need to study, so that should help me work on the plethora of leaks I've got! lol I'm also about half way through The Poker Mindset which so far is a pretty good read. There is definitely a ton of stuff I can use & it's interesting to see what stuff they recommend that I'm already doing.

Starting to think about my goals for next month already too, given that I'm going to have around a week away from the tables, it's going to be more study based than normal. Not too sure I'm going to get much done while I'm away but it should be good to get some time off & hopefully I'll return all refreshed.

Week 2: Success comes in cans, not cant's

This week wasn't as bad as last week was, I've managed to stop the haemorrhaging of my roll. I'm still playing the $2 games just till I've got my confidence back & some of my roll too!

I feel like I'm playing well, I had a moment of self doubt which I guess comes from the 10BI down swing. I know it ain't huge, I also know it isn't going to be the biggest swong I'm gonna face on this rocky path. But man does it knock a guys confidence.

My state of mind right now is excited. I know my game has come a long way since I started back in Dec, granted I'm not shooting through the limits but there is plenty of time for that. At the beginning of the year I set a target to get to the $10 level & I know this is well within reach. I was checking a few stats from the games I've played this month, I'm running at 11% ROI this month at the $2 games. Which I'll take right now! This is coming straight off the back of the losing streak & this pushes my confidence that little bit further.

All things are coming along nicely, I'm on target for hitting both the volume & the time committed to playing poker. Should get back on track with the videos, but the goal may change slightly next month because while I haven't been watching a ton of videos I have been working on my game, so I may change that to 'Studying'.

Week 1: Variance is lol

So week 1 has been fucking horrible, I've run so bad like I've never run bad before. I'm pretty confident I'm not just whining about variance & actually playing bad, my pokerluckmeter rating for Thurs & Fri was 0% luck, both days reassured me my odds of facing this amount of bad luck is over 1:1000 but faced it 2 days in a row.

I tried to play through it, I'm now thinking this was a mistake as I've dropped $50 which isn't much but it's a good chunk of my bankroll. Another losing session today running at 6% luck & I'm looking at only 8 buyins @ the $5 level. As a result I've moved down until I can build it back up again. All the hands are pretty legit beats, I tweeted about them recently: AQ<79s,AA

I still need to ship a couple of HHs to Hokie, but I'm not sure if its wise to send any ATM as I'm not sure my play is effected by the variance. So I guess I'm gonna leave it a week or so. I also ned to adjust my plan, currently I'm just playing games until I need to have a break or need to go to work. I'm going to stick to playing a set number of games a day, which should hopefully limit my exposure to playing bad & give me a chance to recover rather than playing through it. So I need to play 6 games a day to hit my volume target which should be pretty easy. I'm gonna try to play 5 $2 games & 1 $5 game to try & keep the $5 games mixed in.
